Purpose
The Vermillion River Watershed manages water resources in a 335-square-mile area that includes all or part of 20 cities and townships, including Elko New Market and New Market Township in Scott County. It is governed by a Joint Powers Board that consists of two Dakota County Commissioners and one Scott County Commissioner. The Watershed Planning Commission is a formal citizen advisory group that advises the Joint Powers Board regarding its duties, which include:
- Guiding implementation of the watershed management plan
- Developing an annual work plan/budget
- Recommending action regarding disputes that occur pursuant to the Joint Powers Agreement.
Meetings
The Planning Commission typically meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at 4:00 PM in Conference Room A at the Dakota County Extension and Conservation Center in Farmington. They also offer Zoom as a participation option. The Zoom links can be found on the meeting agendas or on their online calendar.
Members
Members must reside within the Vermillion River Watershed which, in Scott County, includes the City of Elko New Market and New Market Township.
