If a Scott County resident dies without the means to pay for his or her own burial expenses, then an application can be completed by a family member to use County funds to pay for these costs. If eligible, authorization will be given to the Funeral Director selected by the family to render services prior to those services being given.
Each year the County will set rates on how much we can pay for a burial or cremation. If the deceased has assets, we will refer the case to our Collection Officer to pursue a claim against the estate.
How to Apply for County Burial
Contact the County directly at 952-496-8686 to request an application and speak with a worker. Most funeral homes in the area also have the application.
