Solid Waste Management

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING TO AMEND THE SCOTT COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE NO.  2

The Scott County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the County Board Room, in the Scott County Government Center, 200 Fourth Ave. W., Shakopee, Minnesota.  The purpose of this hearing is to consider amendments to the Solid Waste Management Ordinance No. 2.  The purpose of the amendments is to ensure the ordinance is consistent with current Solid Waste Management Plan, state rules and statutes, remove redundant definitions and terms, and clarify current ordinance language.   This Ordinance will be effective throughout Scott County.  A draft copy of proposed Ordinance is available here: Proposed SW ordinance amendment (link)

Solid Waste Regulation involves inspection and code enforcement of licensed solid waste facilities and licensed waste haulers, and the investigation of illegal dumping.

Solid Waste Planning

Solid waste planning, and the implementation of alternatives to landfill burial, was established by Minnesota's Waste Management Act and related legislation. This service is funded by grants from the State of Minnesota.

Programs

Waste management activities are County-wide, and include programs such as recycling, household hazardous waste (HHW) management, yard waste management, waste processing, waste reduction, problem waste management, and public education. These programs are coordinated with the State of Minnesota, municipalities, townships, and Scott County's Solid Waste Advisory Committee.
