Scott County Sheriff’s Office Employee Promotions

Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen is pleased to announce Jail Corrections Officer Margaret Astrup and Jail Corrections Officer Kaylah Fryklund have been promoted to the rank of Jail Corrections Sergeant.  In their new roles, they will directly supervise corrections staff, jail operations and activities.  These promotions follow the recent retirements of Corrections Sgt. Colleen Szabo and Corrections Sgt. Barb Winterfeldt.

Sgt. Margaret Astrup has been a Jail Corrections Officer with the Sheriff’s Office since 1999 – following in the footsteps of her father, a longtime Sheriff’s Office Jail employee, retired Sgt. Jerome “Jerry” Astrup.  She has served in many roles including Field Training Officer, Left-In-Charge Officer, Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) Leader, Jail Programs Officer, Court Security Officer, and an instructor/trainer.  Sgt. Astrup has also completed the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association's (MSA) Institute for Credible Leadership Development (ICLD) program.  In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, travel and go fishing.

Sgt. Kaylah Fryklund has been a Jail Corrections Officer with the Sheriff’s Office since 2015.  She has worked various assignments, including Field Training Officer, Left-In-Charge Officer, and an instructor/trainer.  Sgt. Fryklund has also completed the MSA's Institute for Credible Leadership Development (ICLD) program.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and being outdoors.

“Sgt. Astrup and Sgt. Fryklund have both worked incredibly hard to earn these promotions,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.  “I would like to congratulate them on this new chapter in their professional careers and I look forward to watching them grow in these leadership positions.”

The Scott County Jail is a direct supervision facility that houses an average of 120 inmates per day who have been arrested and are awaiting trial or who have been convicted of a criminal offense and are sentenced to serve time in jail.  The Jail employs over 60 correctional and nursing staff who are responsible for facility safety and security and maintaining the health and well-being of the inmates.

The Sheriff’s Office is always looking for outstanding people who want to make a difference in their community.  If you are interested in a rewarding career with the Sheriff’s Office, please visit our website at www.scottcountymn.gov and click on “Job Postings” to learn more about job opportunities.
