On October 6, 2022, Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen and Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate presented the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association’s (MCPA) Business of the Year Award to Shakopee Cub Foods Grocery Store manager, Paul Breiter. This annual award is given to a business that has assisted with crime prevention programs in a given area.
Since 2017, Breiter and Shakopee Cub Foods have been partnering with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Shakopee Police Department, and participating municipal police departments of Scott County in support of several community programs and initiatives, including Shop with a Cop. Shop with a Cop is a program that aims to build lasting, positive relationships between underprivileged and at-risk youth and law enforcement in our community, and to ensure the holidays are a special time for them and their families. Kids are paired with law enforcement officers for a shopping spree during the holiday season to buy gifts for themselves and their families.
Every year, Breiter and Cub Foods have donated a truckload of groceries to the Shop with a Cop event and personally distributed the food to each participating family. The event has grown since it started, with the acceptance of more families into the program, and every year, Cub Foods continues to match their dedication.
Breiter and Cub Foods also support other local community events, including Bark in the Park - a crime awareness program supporting citizen awareness and crime prevention while out in public enjoying Minnesota weather with their four-legged friends, and Project Community Connect - an annual event encouraging individuals experiencing homelessness to gather with various resources gauged particularly for them.
The nomination for this award was made by Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Deputy Amy Weckman. “On top of his strong will to help in the community wherever he can, Paul can be counted on to always share a smile and helping hand,” said Weckman.
“The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Shakopee Police Department, and the other agencies in Scott County that participate in the Shop with a Cop program are grateful for our partnership with Paul Breiter and Shakopee Cub Foods and are proud to recognize them for their continued commitment in helping those in need,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.
