Great news, we're restarting our Summer youth volunteer program after a three-year hiatus! Scott County Library is seeking a limited number of youth volunteers aged 14-18 to join our Spotlight Crew - a team of youth who support Summer Spotlight, our annual summer reading program. This is an opportunity for teens to learn more about the library world and gain valuable volunteer experience.
About Spotlight Crew & Commitment
Spotlight Crew members must be 14-18 years old. They are expected work about 10 volunteer shifts throughout the summer. Shifts will be 2-4 hours per week in a specific SCL branch. Volunteer duties will vary depending on the day you are scheduled, but can include:
- Setting up, helping out, and taking down programs
- Assisting staff with library maintenance and basic book sorting
- Promoting and explaining the Summer Spotlight reading program to kids and families
If accepted, all participants must attend a mandatory online training in late May. There will be several training sessions to choose from. You will also have a brief tour when you work your first shift at the library.
How to Apply
Contact your SCL branch and speak with library staff. Our staff will provide further details on volunteering and a special link for the online application. View library contact information. We expect parents to help teens complete the application.
PS - Make sure to save your login info when you apply, you will need it again if accepted to claim shifts and more!
Application Deadline
Applications open Monday March 13 and will close no later than April 24. However, we will close applications as soon as all our positions are filled, so please submit as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! Applicants can expect to hear back from us by email in late April or early May.
