Beginning March 4, Scott County Library will adjust and add hours across its seven locations to better serve residents’ needs. Highlights include increased weekend and evening availability, and more consistent operating times. Residents of Scott County can utilize any library location to receive services.
In addition to expanding staffed hours, the library continues to offer Extended Access, an opt-in self service access program that increases the availability and access to Scott County Libraries. Over 1,000 cardholders aged 16 and older can access certain Scott County libraries from 6am -10pm every day, for a combined total of 112 staffed and self service hours each week per location. The service is currently available at the Jordan, Elko New Market, and New Prague Libraries. Scott County expects to launch Extended Access service at the Belle Plaine, Savage, and Prior Lake Libraries later this year.
“Extended Access is also a great way for us to provide equity to our smaller communities,” says Library Director Jennifer Schultz. “While some branches will naturally need more staffed hours due to population size, we don’t want a patron’s access to resources to be limited by their location.”
To enroll in Extended Access, visit any Scott County library.
“We’re exploring what it means for us to be a community hub in the 21st century,” adds Schultz. “We’re excited for our next chapter, and we look forward to growing alongside our communities.”
