Scott
County will be hosting the 16th annual FutureLeaders of Scott County event on Friday, April 28, 2017! This event affords
selected 8th and 9th graders from Scott County schools who are studyinggovernment a hands-on opportunity to learn about county government outside of
the classroom environment.
Duringthe months of January and February, County officials and staff visit 8th and
9th grade government classes throughout the County, briefly introducing thetopic of county government and inviting interested students to apply for the
Future Leaders of Scott County Day program. Selected students – limited to 100due to space and budget constraints – will be matched with County employees (mentors)
based on interests indicated in the application form. Students will then spendthe day “shadowing” their mentors and preparing for and participating in either
a mock jury trial or a mock County Board meeting or visiting the SCALE RegionalTraining Facility in Jordan to see up close how law enforcement officers, firefighters,
and other public safety professionals are trained for their life-saving work.
Interestedstudents should watch for announcement of the event at their respective
schools. If you are an interested student studying civics -- or the parent ofan interested student who does not attend a traditional school in Scott County
