[ARCHIVED] National Night Out

National Night Out

National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August and will occur on August 1st this year.  This program is designed to:

  • Heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts.
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts.
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out is an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program that promotes neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships in the fight for a safer nation. The benefits your neighborhood will derive from National Night Out will most certainly extend well beyond the night.

“Now more than ever before, we all need to come together as a community – to support each other, to respect each other, and to make sure that everyone is safe in their homes, neighborhoods, wherever we go. National Night Out provides us a wonderful opportunity to really listen to and engage with each other, person to person, neighbor to neighbor. True public safety must be achieved through strong, trusting relationships between peace officers and the people we serve, and I’m committed to strengthening these connections even more.” Sheriff Hennen

From approximately 5 to 9 p.m., residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening with the neighbors. Your event does not have to be large or elaborate. It can be as simple as having a conversation in your neighbor’s yard. The important thing is to talk to your neighbors and plan to get together.

How do I register for National Night Out?

Registration for the 2017 National Night Out event is now open. Register here.  Deadline to request law enforcement/emergency responder attendance is July 24th.
