After months of construction, the wait is over! The new indoor aquatic center in the Shakopee Community Center is set to open at noon on Thursday, July 20. The indoor aquatic center is part of a 16-month expansion project at the Community Center, which included a remodel and construction of the new two-sheet Shakopee Ice Arena.
The 22,300-square-foot aquatic center includes a zero-entry leisure pool with play features and water slide. The leisure pool reaches a maximum depth of 3 feet, 6 inches. The aquatic center also has a four-lane lap pool, which will be available for lap swim, water aerobics, open swim and swimming lessons. A schedule of open swim time will be posted later today.
Additional indoor aquatic center amenities include a sauna, whirlpool and men’s, women’s and family changing rooms. Pool murals were created by local artist Greg Preslicka.
Indoor aquatic center use is included in daily admission and Community Center memberships.
The indoor playground is also set to open at noon July 20. Admission to the playground is $5 per child or included with a Community Center family membership.
Grand Re-Opening event set for Sept. 10
Check out the facility at a grand re-opening event from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. We’ll offer free swimming, skating, open gym and playground. Stick around for a ribbon-cutting, tours, prizes, bounce house, kids’ games and refreshments. We’ll also have a drawing to win a new exercise bike.
