Every summer, local kids join dozens of Scott County deputies, police officers, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel in fishing boats for a day of fun and fishing on the Minnesota River! Up to 50 kids, ages 12 to 16, who live in or attend school in Scott County, will have the opportunity to participate in this free event. Bait, fishing gear, food and beverages are all provided.
The 18th Annual Youth Catfish Derby will be held on Monday, August 6th, 2018. The derby will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end with an awards ceremony at approximately 1:30 p.m. We’ll “stage” at the Scott County Fairgrounds, but most of the day will be spent on the Minnesota River trying to catch one of the biggest fish in North America! Prizes will be awarded and all kids will receive participation gifts.
“The Catfish Derby is designed to teach kids to fish, connect them with the outdoors and develop trusting relationships with our deputies and other emergency responders within our community,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen. “This positive interaction in an informal and relaxed setting gives these kids a better understanding of what we do and who we are.”
Applications will be accepted from July 9th through July 16th, or until all spots are filled. This event is FREE but space is limited to 50 participants and priority will be given to individuals who have not participated in the past. All registrations will be done online. Please visit the Scott County website at www.scottcountymn.gov, where the Catfish Derby registration form can be found under Sheriff’s Office “Community Programs” or CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
Join us on the Minnesota River for a day of sun, fun and fishing! Get hooked on fishing, not on drugs!
