Scott County Sheriff’s Office Encourages Neighborhood Involvement as Crime Prevention Tool
Shakopee, MN – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office invites local residents and business owners to join neighborhoods across the state and nation to recognize 2018 National Night Out, the 35th anniversary of the nationwide event.
“National Night Out gives us the opportunity to meet with our citizens and discuss ways we can help each other prevent crime in our neighborhoods,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen. “The partnership between law enforcement and community is the key in continuing to make Scott County a great, safe place to live."
Participating in National Night Out is simple - neighborhood residents are asked to turn on outside lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with fellow neighbors and public safety personnel. Many neighborhoods plan block events such as ice cream socials, BBQs, lawn games, and similar fun events to bring neighbors together. Neighbors are encouraged to use the evening to discuss issues important to their communities, creating a plan to protect common areas, or coordinating a neighborhood watch program.
“My favorite part of National Night Out is seeing the excited looks from the kids when they watch the emergency vehicles drive up to their neighborhood party,” said Community Engagement Deputy Amy Lueck. “Building trust in kids at a young age and showing them that we are there for them when they need us is important for our community as it grows.”
National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Most neighborhood events are scheduled between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office invites neighborhoods to register for National Night Out 2018. Registering in advance allows for deputies and public safety personnel to be aware of planned events, which offers the opportunity to attend and meet citizens.
To register your neighborhood event for National Night Out, visit www.scottcountymn.gov, and click on “Community Programs" or CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. If you would like Sheriff's Office personnel to attend your event, please submit the form by July 23rd.
