Just in time for the summer fair season, join the Scott County Historical Society for an author talk and exhibition with Minnesota author and photographer R. J. Kern. Kern’s most recent work is “The Unchosen Ones,” which consists of over 65 portraits made at 10 Minnesota county fairs in 2016. Kern has been documenting the young people who enter animals in FFA and 4H competitions and has created beautiful portraits that tell the stories from both sides of the blue ribbon.
Works from “The Unchosen Ones” have received numerous photography awards. In addition, selections have been featured in National Geographic, the BBC, PBS, PDN, and the Royal Photographic Society Journal. R. J. Kern will be sharing stories from the county fairs he visited and the people he met during the process of creating “The Unchosen Ones.” The book will also be available for purchase and signing. Additionally, SCHS will host a temporary exhibit of Kern’s work.
The event is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. SCHS members are free. Light refreshments will be provided. Please reserve a seat in advance at https://bit.ly/2JVeNuN.
