Join the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) on Saturday, Nov. 16, for a special event celebrating Dakota peoples’ rich culture and history. Hosted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hoċokata Ti in Shakopee, this open house will give attendees a chance to explore the new cultural center and learn more about the tribe through interactive learning stations.
Session topics will include:
• Arts and crafts
• Native American culture and language
• Local history
• Indigenous foods
• Federal policy impact
• Gaming history
• And more!
With everything from a dance and drum demonstration to Native film screenings to an Indigenous food tasting, this free event is well-suited for the whole family. Attendees will also be able to visit the SMSC’s recently opened public exhibit—Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake—at no cost throughout the day. Join your neighbors at the SMSC as the tribe shares a piece of its history and culture and explore areas and issues of interest to Indian Country today.
All are welcome to attend. RSVP at shakopeedakota.org/unity.
