[ARCHIVED] Sheriff’s Office’s 2019 ‘Season’s Greetings’ Card Design Contest Winners Announced

Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen is excited to announce the winners of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office’s 2019 ‘Season’s Greetings’ Card Design Contest.  Congratulations to Maxtin Heng (age 7) of Jordan Elementary School for his winning design, that will be featured on the front cover of this year's official Sheriff's Office greeting card.  Maxtin’s winning design was among 65 entries for this year’s contest!

Maxtin and his mom enjoyed lunch with Sheriff Hennen, took a ride in a patrol car, and received several other prizes.

Maxtin’s teacher, Maggie Holbeck, said “This opportunity tied in perfectly with a social studies unit I had planned about communities and community helpers. Students read books about the people who support us and keep us safe in our communities including garbage collectors, mail carriers, doctors, teachers, fire fighters, police officers, and others.  After reading, students discussed the different ways our helpers support us and wrote about what our communities would be like without them. Students developed a greater sense of understanding and appreciation for our community helpers. The Holiday card contest provided an authentic way to close this unit.  Thank you again for this opportunity. It was a positive experience and a great opportunity to make this social studies unit come alive!”

The runners-up this were Zacaious Moe (age 8) of Raven Stream Elementary and Wyatt Tessin (age 9) of Jordan Elementary.  Zacaious and Wyatt also received a bag of prizes and enjoyed lunch at school with Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dvorak, Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lueck, and Jordan Police Officer Otto.

“I appreciate the community involvement from our schools and students to make this annual event a success,” Sheriff Hennen said. “It’s heartwarming to see so many positive depictions of law enforcement through the perspective of these children.”

A special thanks to the parents and teachers who helped the kids participate, and to all the other children who submitted their amazing designs.
