On March 13, 2020, Chief Deputy Adam Pirri of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with 254 other law enforcement personnel, graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The 279th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 49 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 32 countries, 5 military organizations, and 8 federal civilian organizations.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these individuals have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered.
“This experience gave me the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss current law enforcement issues with some of the top law enforcement officers in the world,” Said Chief Deputy Pirri. “Understanding that the law enforcement challenges we face in Scott County are shared with agencies of all different sizes and from all over the Unites States and the world, has given me the perspective and understanding to help the Scott County Sheriff’s Office continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our citizens.”
A total of 52,795 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
FBI Director Christopher Wray delivered remarks at the ceremony and presented the graduates with their certificates.
